Roxie was born with a passion for art. She grew up in the Bay Area surrounded by artists and musicians and received an early education in creativity. As a child, my mom drew an orange-haired troll toy I had and depicted it on a piece of paper, which gave me a longing to do the same. As I delved into the world of books and stories, I also desired to illustrate the characters, creatures and scenarios and enjoyed coming up with stories of my own. Also, my dad would spoil me with stuffed animals, so that is one of the reasons I became a plush snob as well. During my college years, I made my first stuffed animal ---a brown and gray fox with black legs. I continued to make plush and soon was making my own from scribbled patterns and sketches of designs for maximum cuteness (or coolness—or huggableness)

Laurin discovered her love for sculpting in 2012 while she was working towards getting her undergraduate degree. Out of curiosity she enrolled in a beginning sculpting class and to her surprise, she found her passion in life. She attended San Jose State University where she graduated as summa cum laude, earning a B.F.A. in Spatial Art and a minor in art education in 2018.
Since she was a little girl, Laurin has been intrigued with nature and natural catastrophes and reflects these themes in her work. She is passionate about texture, structure, and color in her sculptures and is an integral part of her current body of work that takes microscopic biological forms and reinterprets them with a macroscopic anatomy. Her work begins with examining elements in the natural world and comparing them to architectural structures where she investigates the connectivity of their forms together and individually in their natural environments. These investigations lead into new ways of creating her sculptures on an enlarged scale so that she can capture both the essence and beauty of life while focusing the viewer’s attention on the often-overlooked structure and form.
